I love this because it is something I could send to a friend who is interested in getting chickens. It's clear and concise, and has good info.

Thank you also for including meat as one of the reasons. As you said, it can be a touchy subject for some, so I think it sometimes get avoided in articles like this. However, I think it's an important point. We love raising our own meat and eggs because we know our food was happy food. :) Can't say that about much you get from the store!

I got chickens at a time in my life when I was unable to work due to a serious work-related injury. I sought companionship and purpose in chickens to keep myself from getting down or depressed about my situation. They certainly delivered, and now I've gained a lifelong love for chickens and so many skills related to taking care of them. :)

Thank you so much! I’m so glad chickens were able to get you through a tough time. They certainly bring so much joy ❤️
Wow, this was a really interesting read and it seems you really did your homework as far as research goes. I've been interested in the idea of homemade feed for a while and this is a good resource.

Beautiful coop, but more info and pictures would be appreciated. This seems like more of a post than an article. I would love to see more of your coop if you do decide to update this article.

Nice article! It didn't go into a lot of detail on everything, but was a nice overview.

Still up to date as of today, 5-27-22.

I also want to note that slaughtering of small animals (chickens, ducks, rabbits, and "similar animals") is allowed, as long as it is is in an enclosed space such as a garage and will be used only by the occupants of the house.

Very interesting! Sometimes I think my chickens are super smart, and other times... not so much. But this helped me realize that chickens just have their own unique way of communicating.
