What a great theme! Lots of good pics, and the narrative just plain makes me smile. The red and blue swabby stripes on the side are a nice touch .. very "pirate-y!" But I have ta ask ... what did that poor hen do that she has to walk the plank?
ps - Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think your vented windows should be fine. They're above the hens' heads, and so is your roof ventilation, so any draft should pull upward, not down into the coop.
