Jersey Giants are the largest chicken breed in the world.
The black variety originated in New Hersey in the 1880s when the Black brothers, John and Thomas, crossed Black Javas, Dark Brahmas, Dark Cornishes and Black Langshans.
It is said that castrated roosters can grow up to an amazing 20 pounds! Imagine that on your table!

They are fairly good layers of large to extra large brown eggs, with a long laying season.
They mature slowly and have a poor feed-to-meat conversion, which explains why they are not a popular meat breed. They were popular as broilers in the late 1800s, though.

They are fairly cold hardy, so they would be a good breed in colder countries.

SIZE: Standard rooster: 13 pounds. Hen: 10 pounds.

They have a large single comb. They have red earlobes.
