This article is great, but there are a a couple things I don't agree with; bantams aren't the greatest layers, and bantams are not very heat tolerant. Those are partly true, some bantams lay good, other not so good, some do bad in heat, others don't, it all depends on the breed, and it is the same for standard sized chickens.

Thanks for making this, I still thing it is great! I love going around and reading articles, and I always gain at least a bit of new information in each one. Thanks for taking the time to make this.
The article is well written with lots of info in regards to what to look for within the different breeds of chickens. Not only do you have descriptions of the various characteristics different breeds and types of chickens can have; but, you've also included a comprehensive chart which includes more info on specific breeds (like egg laying, weight, confinement, temperament, etc). I just had a hard time finding the chart, but that is more of a byc formatting issue (just had to keep scrolling past the reviews or look under the gallery of pics). It is obvious that a lot of effort went into creating this article. :thumbsup

This is a great way to start your search. It's an easy read. It's not a listing of breeds, just a list of the important characteristics you'll need to consider. You still get to do all the fun research on the many different breeds, this just makes it much easier to get started!

Thank you, make sure you didn’t miss the breed chart of the more common large fowl and bantam breeds in the attached zip file. You can download and read on your desk top. It’s in an excel file.
