Additional InformationArticle 5, section 10 states that a maximum of 6 domesticated female chickens of any breed may be kept in Residential and Village zones. An annual permit is required, $10 fee, and penalties may result as a result of violations of the ordinance. Chickens must be housed in a chicken pen (in the rear of the property or on the side if a corner lot, at least 25 feet away from any property line), with sturdy wire fencing buried 12 inches into the ground, covered with wire, aviary netting or solid roofing. Slaughtering of chickens is not permitted, chicken pen must be kept clean and neither the odor or noise level should be detectable by a reasonable person standing at the property line. Also, Chickens shall be kept for personal use only; no person shall sell eggs or engage in chicken breeding or fertilizer production for commercial purposes.
