To start out, Sock is a Blue Copper Maran I got her from a friend who raises Blue/Black Copper Marans and Guineas. When I looked at her it was easy to tell something was wrong. Her leg was splayed only backwards instead of to the side. I knew how to help a normal splayed legs chick but, not this type. So of coarse I made a thread. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/new-baby-chicks-but-theres-a-problem-help-splayedish-leg. It took a while for answers but, the wait was worth it. Turns out it was not splayed legs. It was a slipped tendon and curled toes. I put tape on the curled toes and made a chick chair (as instructed). Every hour I fed and watered her (sometimes she ate sometimes she didn't.) This continued until Friday (it was Tuesday when I got her) I had to take a trip for the weekend. I had to bring Sock but, I couldn't bring any others to keep her company. There I was on a 30 min car ride full of peeps. The weekend continued as well as hourly feeding and chirping thru the night. Finally Sunday arrived back to the brooder we go!!! Nope a red wasp just had to sting me. An hour later finally back to the brooder. Again it was peep peep peep all the way home. There was 20 seconds of silence and then PEEEP PEEEEP again. When we finally got there I fed Sock and put her back in the brooder. An hour later I came back to feed her and to my surprise she had jumped out of her chair and was walking with the others! She was drinking and eating fine ( I took the blue tape of because, the others were pecking at it) and walking good. Despite her being so tiny she thought she was the boss. All was well except for her size she was halve the size of the others. I was a bit worried about this but, then she started breathing hard. I never figured out why she did it but, after a few days she was back to normal and she was growing a bit. She is a little fighter! This story is not at all over. I will update if something crazy happens and will post more pictures. Sock is NOT a hen hes a little rooster!
