What a beautiful coop! I kind of have a similar set up where I have my coop and totally enclosed run, then a much larger area done with chicken wire for my girls to roam! One question (I've never been a great reader) - Is there a base to your run, or is the hardware cloth apron the main thing to keep digging predators out? My apologies if I missed it in your fantastic write up
The run is protected by the surrounding electrified poultry netting and the predator apron only. Nothing has ever breached my setup.
I don't believe in putting anything but the earth and organic litter under a chicken's feet in a run. They need to be able to dig holes for dust bathing and scratch around in the run to look for critters. They also like to dig along the perimeter of the run in the damp soil when it's hot out and lay on the damp earth to help keep cool.
I loved this article
I am looking forward to making my own coop and run (will definitely make an article about it)
We are moving at the moment with 10 ducks (8 calls, 1 silver appleyard and 1 runner) and we can't take their coop so at first they will be living in a crate in a barn
Very impressive! I am currently undertaking a similar project of turning an old unused shed into a coop. Im sure moving all that stuff out and finding new spots for it was a pain. I know it was tough on me and I only had 1/10 of the stuff that was in yours. You have beautiful happy healthy-looking birds! Im sure they love this Chicken Palace. Definitely provides me some motivation
I still love my coop! I think you will enjoy the conversion process. Please consider writing your own article to inspire others. Thank you for taking the time to post a review!!
I was totally engrossed with the flock tales!!! I laughed at Fabio's adventures and am currently observing my coop with a bit of a harsh eye Very cool coop!
Awesome! Mine is similar but built completely from the ground up, Wish Id of seen this before my build, I would have done a few things your way. May still change a few things with mine next spring when its nice enough to work outside again.
Excellent build & article covering it! Great attention to detail. Plus I laughed out loud when the inspector flogged you . I love your coop & run, I'm sure your chickens do too.
This was such an amazing read, particularly for a newbie looking for ideas about how to add that extra oomph to a new coop! Love the framing and site prep details.
Wow! This is just awesome! I read through the whole thing, and like... this is the dream coop of any person! Nice construction skills, doors, cameras, EVERYTHING!!!
Gott share this to people building their own coops!
This article is very in-depth about the construction of the coop, which is helpful for people who are hoping to build their own. This is by far my favorite coop in terms of beauty and functionality. Well done.
Wonderful well written well thought out article of a practical and good looking coop. I have converted half of an existing building to end up with a coop of the same dimensions as yours and have referenced your article multiple times for ideas and practical considerations. Thank you for a awesome coop build article!
Wow! What a well written, and highly thought-out article and coop! I loved reading this and seeing you and your husband's unique style in the end product! You definitely should have some happy chickens!
Thank you for taking the time to read and write a review! The work was all mine though. My poor DH is no longer able to do construction with me. He did help hoist the beams into place though.
