I HATE HATE H-A-T-E darn snakes!!! I am sooooooooo ticked!

This one came into my coop last night and attacked one of my 10 week old Jersey Giants! The JG's are so sweet, too.

There is no feed kept in the coop and the feeder was moved outside a couple of weeks ago. The pullets are too young to lay at 10 weeks and the last time there were eggs in that coop was over 12 years ago.

So I don't want to hear how the snakes are just after mice or eggs...THEY WERE AFTER MY CHICKENS! The thing is, is that there are hundreds of uninhabited acres around here, there is plenty of natural prey to be found, so why my birds?!!

Yeah, it is a FIVE foot long Texas Rat Snake but still too small to eat a chicken that big so I have no idea why the hell it would try!!

The snake is now resting in peace on my fence to bring rain.

That is a 3 foot yardstick laying along the snake.

I'm so sorry you lost your girl! I can't imagine why he thought he could eat her. My grandmother found a snake once that tried to eat one of her broodies. The snake had her head in his mouth and they were both dead. I hope you don't have this problem again.

I've skinned a rattlesnake before...never a rat snake. We are so behind in rain that it'll do more good on the fence...belly-up! ...besides, the buzzards have gotta eat too!

It's a Rat Snake....guess I forgot to mention. I'll go back and edit.

It wasn't small, you can see in the photo the head is a couple of inches across.
