I was so excited about my chicks & dying to get home to see them. It's a awfully good thing that I didn't leave work.
Around 11:30 I get a call from the campus mailing services (I work for a large university). I thought it was weird that they were calling me. The guy says, "We've got a box of chicks here for you." I could hear them in the background.
1. We're not supposed to get personal stuff at work.
2. I didn't order chicks.
3. I certainly have chicks sent to my OFFICE!!
I called coffeelady3 & DBF to tell them. I promised DBF that I did NOT order more chicks.
As I dashed across campus to pick them up, all I could think was that these were duplicates of the 3 chicks I'd ordered to coffeelady3's (Dena) order. They had't shown up on her order number but MPC assured me they'd be in the order. They were.
Maybe these chicks were a duplicate of the 7-chick order?
During my walk across campus I'm cracking up over the ridiculousness of this situation. What the heck am I going to do with chicks for the afternoon? I was going to have to clear my schedule and get these babies home.
I finally found the mailing building. They got "my" chicks and I was apologizing profusely about getting something like this at work. They seemed nonplussed. I signed for my babies and then asked if I could use some scissors to open the box.
Inside was a bundle of chicks. Quite a few more than 7. I counted 12.
OMG. I took them back to my office, where I found a box and a container for some water. I recounted.
14 chicks
Back in Feb I'd submitted an order that had a few chicks for 5 different people. I cancelled it (long story) and then added to Dena's order. Well, guess what. This surprise shipment is that cancelled order.
I've got:
1 - partridge silkie pullet
1 - buff laced polish pullet
2 buff orpington pullet
1 black sex-link
2 gold-laced Wyandotte
1 barred Plymouth Rock
1 - white-crested blue polish pullet
1 - australorp pullet
1 - silver-laced wyandotte
1 - blue cochin
1 black crested polish
1 silver-laced polish
Holy moly.
I've already found homes for 8-9 of them, plus I'm going to keep the blue cochin and maybe the buff polish. We live in the city and this would take us to 10 chickens.
Holy moly. I don't know what else to say.
