I have a broody hen that is VERY broody. I ordered eggs to set under her! My questions is this........

Currently she is in a nest box in our coop. I have a hutch to use for her to brood in. Should I transfer her into this hutch or just leave her in the nest box in the coop? Would it be better to move her at night?

Please help me by giving me suggestions.

Thanks!

The only problem with leaving them in the coop is that you don't know what the other chickens might do to the eggs. Sometimes they get in there and peck them to pieces, or try to lay more eggs, etc.

The best time to move a broody is at night. Try to make it as non-intrusive as possible, and she'll probably settle right in and do her thing.

I was wondering if my other hens might bother her too.

I am going to move her tonight. Thanks for the advice! Wish me luck!!!

Thanks!

It'll be good to move her a day or two before you give her the eggs you want her to set. That way she will have time to adjust to her new surroundings and get nicely settled. Then when those eggs arrive you can swap them for the ones beneath her.

WooHoo! It worked! I moved my Broody hen last night right at dusk. I had already moved some of the nesting material that was in her nest box in the coop into her "New Broody Hutch". I added the eggs that I rec'd from okiehen.

OH MY!!! you will love watching her do her work. I have a broody silkie hen that is in the house in a small dog carrier, she LOVES her job. I only put 6 eggs under her and she is so fun to watch she rolls the eggs out and fluffs up her bedding and rolls them back in. One by one. She is a good broody!!!I only have 5 days to wait! WOO HOOO I am excited! Here is a pic of her! Edited to add, She looks like a big fluffy rabbit in there!!!

You didn't say what kind of eggs, did you? Or what kind of hen. We are noisy you know. We need details and pics. I love pics.
