yikes! found some blood in the poop of the little chickies - who run with the big hens. a couple are huddled so i'm just back from the feed store with my big ol' bottle of Corid and am mixing up 4cc/gallon

my question is:

is Corid safe for laying hens? eggs ok to eat or give to pigs/dogs?

i'm guessing everyone should have the 5 day dose, right?

thanks!
ps sorry if this is the millionth Q about this - my search didnt answer exactly this question and i'm a little hoppy aroundy about my little chickies

It is safe to give to laying hens but you'll need to make sure you observe the withdrawal period, which varies (depending upon who you ask) from 5-17 days. You'll have to make the call on what you think it best for you.

I'd give the eggs to the dogs (beware of eggy dog farts!). The meds won't hurt them. If the pigs are pets, then they can eat the eggs, too. If they're for meat production, I wouldn't give the eggs to the pigs.

Corid is not labeled for use in chickens it is labeled for use in both dairy & meat cattle. There is no milk or slaughter withdrawal period for cattle so many assume that would also be true of eggs. Corid is not an antibiotic it's a Thymine blocker. The Coccidia die from lack of Thymine.
If it makes you feel better don't use the eggs for a few days but it's probably noy necessary.

thanks everyone - i've been hopping around all day in an absolute whirl over the whole thing.

the good news is that the little one that was so droopy earlier today actually is a bit perkier and there are no more droopy ones in the rest of the mob.

our joke at the grocery is always "do we need to get eggs" then we laugh self-righteously at the poor saps BUYING eggs... i guess i got my come uppence now...i dont even know how much they cost these days.. where's my crow - i mean.. store bought eggs, i'll eat it... hey wait! the duck is laying! whew i'm saved!

thanks again for the replies.
ps jennspeeps - dog eggy farts is right! i've got two huge dogs and wow... one day they nearly drove up from the house!
