So I'm feeding everything this evening to save myself some time in the morning and my 6yr old son, says, "Mom! Look! A big snake is going to eat your chicken!!" Im looking all around, because we have some free range Serama, and they are small enough for most things to eat. Then I see where he is pointing...waaay up in our concrete building where the big birds roost!
Im thinking to myself..."uh..that one is a little bit big for you fella..."
I tried to stand on a bucket, and slide him down the wall with a rake, to let him out, but he swooped his head up and got a good grip and I didnt want to hurt him by yanking on his middle. I guess he is in the middle of the wall in the holes of the cinder blocks. I went to the other side of that wall, where we store hay, and saw his tail sticking out the other side. I got a stool and put it on top of the hay and grabbed his tail. His head came out near my hand and he was looking at me like I rang his doorbell, lol. I dont mind snakes, but really didnt want a big snake to fall on my face or chest while I was on a stool precariously on some haybales, so I let go.
I have a cochin that refused to go broody anywhere but the floor (trust me, we moved her many times!)
Im really worried that he might get down and eat my close-to- hatch eggs. I keep going out there to check. The first time, he was back up at the peak, sticking way out again toward the big chickens, and the next time I didnt see him.
Is there anything that I can use as a snake deterrent to spray around my cochin's nest box? Something they don't like the smell/taste of? Like perfume or lemon juice mixed with soap or something safe but yucky?
Thanks!!
