I have a flock of five of 'em. A roo (who is black/white laced with speckles) and four hens who are dark amber with golden lace - they beautiful. They can also be sexed at birth - males have sooty cheeks and are black; females have golden cheeks and are dark amber.

That sounds quite interesting -- I have a buff orp roo and some Australorp hens. I may have to let them hatch some eggs and see what develops. The last ones to hatch were all from the RIR and BO girls by the RIR and BO roos. Maybe the 'lorpie girls weren't happy with the fellas...

I doubt whether the OPs birds are typical of the cross at least as far as sex linkage.
I've been doing a fair few crossed between buff orps & black or black with dilutors on birds presumed to be extended black.
The OP's Australorps are silver but I doubt that would always be the case.

Are the parents pure or cross
I ask because Black Australorp and Buff Orpington shouldn't have any lacing and I'm trying to figure out how the offspring got lacing..
