I will be laying vinyl flooring down and up the sides to avoid rotting wood, and attaching the side left door with hinges... That way, when it come cleaning time, I will open the door (put chicks in temporary housing), and just SWEEP IT ALL OUT into a garbage can!!!!!! Sounds much easier to me! I also need to attach doors to the front of the 2 levels. Then PAINT!!!!!!

This thing is massive (Well... to me.... ive never made one so big). It's 4 feet tall and 4 feet wide and 2 feet deep.

Anyone have any ideas for names to paint on the front?!?!

updated: NEW PICTURES with the flooring done. I didnt want to buy any vinyl flooring, so i cut up an old swimming pool. I stapled it to the floors (the floors are removable, so it got tucked underneath. Next, ill put shavings in. and add the food and waterer.)

Here is a view of the inside from the side with the door that opens, closes and locks.

Front view... PLEASE excuse my front door. There are supposed to be two doors, BUT our saw is broken, and i couldnt cut them. So i found a board that was exactly 4ft tall and put it on the front. hinged at the bottom, locked on top.

I KNOW I KNOW, it still needs painted!!!!

I ordered from Ideal hatchery. 25 surprise pullets, and 25 bantams st. run (hatchery choice), i told them to give me more cochins than anything. I KNOW they wont, but I did have to speak up. Hehehe. So i'll have 50 babies! I'll keep the sexed girls seperate of course!!!!

I built it mostly by myself... hubby cut the wood. It was SUPER easy... and if you want me to tell ya how I can...

Oh yes please! I think I know what he needs to build me for my birthday. Those Ideal specials are killing me. I want new babies soooooooooooooo bad, but I have 4H broilers arriving next week and my brooders will be all full. But if I had a double-decker bus brooder...

thanks!!! I LOVE building things! I built my 2 story serama pen myself. Its so cool. heheh. I'll post pics on a seperate thread for that IF you are interested!

Ok for this brooder... all you need is

4ft x 4ft (x2) pieces of wood (doesnt matter the thickness, its up to you) these are the front and back boards
4ft x 2ft (x5) these will serve as the sides, top, middle, and bottom.
2ft long 2''x 4'' boards for bracing the front to the back (x4)
4ft long 2''x 4'' boards to place on the wall to hold the top shelf (x2)

I'm sure now that you have the list of things you need... you can put it together right? Or do you want directions? LOL!!

Nice! And congrats on the babies!

We have an old trailer (the kind that is pulled behind a riding lawn mower) and it's bed is made of wood. I've considered turning it into a brooder.
