I'm building this 8x8 coop to house my 18 peeps that are now 2 weeks old. Stage one: footers and floor complete. Now working on walls. Went to building surplus store and picked up a couple windows for $20 dollars each today. The Floor is on top of 5 cinder blocks (4 corners and 1 center support). Floor frame is 2x4 with 16" centers. 1/2 inch OSB for the floor covering. No need to overdo the flloor, it won't be supporting a whole lot of weight.

OK.....I didn't get anything done today, but I did order 21 sheets of OSB from Menards today.
The Peeps are really growing fast. Now I have to fill there food container 4 times a day.

Good job with the coop! I have a question though. Would a 2x4 floor frame and 1/2"OSB work with a 10x12 coop?

8' is about maxed out for a 2x4 floor. I would use 2x6's. 10' and 12' 2x4's really have no support strength unless you weight less than 100lbs. Just be sure when you space the 2x6's so that all edege's of the OSB have 2x's to screw to. I would go with an 8x16 building so that there would be little cutting on the floor and easier to have 2x's on the edge's. You will need more footers though. 8 for the sides and 1 or 2 for the center. After building it you can walk on it and see how much spring you have.

Alright, I built 2 more walls today and picked up 21 sheets of OSB. My ranger was really squiting. Weather was alsome today. We let the peeps out to play today. Easter dinner on saturday. Will probably start working on the coop around 7:30am.
