I buried my darling SilverChick this morning, or what was left of her hollowed out shell of a body. Gotten by the Coopers Hawk (I am fairly confident), there was not much left of her. Found 3 of her 4 chicks the missing one is actually her chick a little Rosecomb bantam.
I have looked and searched for the littlest chick, I just cannot find it and it makes me sick. It is possible that the chick was eaten by the other chickens the pen is surrounded by regular chickens, grow out roos and bachelor roos. I will continue to look for the chick for the rest of the day, but really have no hope of find it.
I loved you SilverChick and miss you already.
Pictures taken just last week:
The missing chick the little one in front:
She was a fantastic mother, who stuffed those chicks so full of food, that for the first couple days out and about they would have golf ball bumps where their crops are. Never did a fly leave her area they were all caught and fed to the chicks.
An honorable death, she is now forever part of the Apple Yard. (DH teases me that it is not big enough to be an orchard)
My smallest, full grown chicken.
Thanks for listening
