I now have 6 broody Buff Orpington hens in the coop, and another walking around clucking. That's about a third of the flock! I only have 2 empty nest boxes for the rest of the girls.
Here's what's cookin' (from left to right):
Broody #1: 8 Lavender Orpington/Black Cochin eggs due July 14
Broody #2: 8 Buff Orpington eggs from Hinkjc due July 14
Broody #3: 8 Lavender Orpington/Black Cochin eggs due around July 1
Broody #4: 8 Buff Orpington eggs from Hinkjc due July 14 (broody has hatched from Hinkjc's flock... irony.)
Broody #5: 5 Lavender Orpington/Black Cochin eggs due July 6
Broody #6: 9 Buff Orpington eggs from our flock due July 6
WHEW! I think I got those in the right order. The color of the broodies is not that great this time of the year since they free-range almost everyday out in the sunshine. Now, let's see what hatches!
I have some peafowl eggs coming for that 7th broody. If she doesn't sit in the next couple of days, I'll put them in the bator until she decides what she wants to do.
