Good news for owners of chickens with compound fractures of the leg! I was on a ride-along with my horse vet yesterday. We stopped by a house to do horse work.. and met the owners of a rooster who had broken his leg a couple of weeks ago.
They had gently cleaned the skin of the leg, and wrapped a piece of gauze around it. Applied a few rounds of Vetwrap. He hobbled for a while. Then a week later walked completely sound.
Yesterday, the man caught him and asked me to cut off the wrap. There only remained a bruise, and fresh skin area. Now, I wouldn't have cut off the wrap just yet, but he refused to listen. The vet said to be very careful, that the wrap really shouldn't have come off.
Good news!
