I am going to be showing some of my paints that are hatching out now. None of mine are very old yet so sexing is still pretty much up in the air. I am not breeding with THE AMERICAN PAINTS so I felt maybe I should start another thread?

I am breeding with two paints that came from European lines. I refer to them as the Euros. I rarely name silkies anymore but these two are special so they are Adam and Eve.

I plan to take pics of the two breeding pens and several difference ages of chicks. Deb and I are finding the same results between what she is hatching from the lines from here and the Euros. I'll try and take pics to show the feathering as well as the open places in the toe and foot pigment. I will TRY to take pictures of Adam's eyes but doubt I can get that to show. His does have blank areas in his eyes too.

Meet Adam and Eve

Adam has the brownish looking feathering of a lot of males. This was during the summer and although his wings are weak they are drooping with the heat.

Eve is showing much better white color. She has a better full crest than Adam. His needs work. Eve was not liking the Texas heat either.

Ok here are some of the chicks. These are just hatched babies so you can see the color at hatch.

Here is a chick I think of as loud.

Then here are some day olds that were hatched just before the Shawnee show.

Yes they are. I hope we can ROUND them up a bit. They are a bit long legged in the cockerel department for now. It could be the lack of good size of crest in the one male that makes him look a bit thinner than my little round balls of fluff in most the other colors around here. I need to improve the over all type to match up better with the blacks I am crossing them on.

Just want to give a shout out to you & Deb for sharing this new adventure with us all on here. It is really cool to see this from the ground floor, and watch how it progresses. For those who don't have Paints in the back yard, it's the next best thing. Sort of like being a Grandparent and watching you grandkids grow up via email, when you live on the other side of the country. So can't wait to see the grandkids grow!

Let's see if I can share the black feather structure. Like some have said...it is actual whole feathers that are black. The bigger the better is what I am liking for now. If it is less spots but loud then they don't look as splash. Even splash you can tell they are white and black and not your regular splash birds.

Ok now for the pigment holes. Some of mine are just the pads of feet...some are toes but just bottoms and then some are the whole foot. I think they may darken some as they age but then...another thing to be tested and followed.
