I'm not a first time hatcher (not a pro either) but if all goes well I should have some eggs ready for the bator at the same time. It's driving me crazy already waiting for eggs. So what eggs are you putting in and what type of bator do you have?

It will be the first time this year does that count?

Totally - i am trying a tough first try with Serama eggs - tho may throw a few Japanese Bantams in for the fun of it! How about you?

I have hatched Seramas in the bator before but it was easier under the hen. Are they shipped eggs? I'm trying to resist the urge to get Serama's again and stick with just large egg layers, but boy is it difficult. I've already got my DH talked into me getting Seramas again. LOL. He says chickens are my therapy.

I've got 11 eggs in lock down now -- due on the 4th.

Variables to consider....hmm...Home made bator needs a tuneup after it gets cleaned out, I will need to find somebody with eggs, and i need to make an auto-turner. Val day is on the 14th...leaving me ten days.... in which to complete these tasks.

Sooooooo......Yes, I'm in if you'll have me!!!!!

Plus, if my wife asks why I do these things I can say: "but honey, they're Valentines eggs..."

Can I be in it I hatched out 7 a few weeks ago and I revamped the cluk o' bator and its ready to go again.

Is your bator homemade? Mine is. I kinda want to buy one but if I did then I'd just hatch more chicks so I stick to my homemade bator.

Welcome all - that was my thought the more the merrier . I know i am taking on a bigger issue by hatching Seramas - but i will be throwing in some Dutch Bantam and Japanese Bantam for a friend.
So it seems alot of you have home made bator's? How did you make them or just come up with the design on your own?
You will have to bare with me on this cause I will be askin a million questions!
Knox

Thanks for joining me!

I used the page here on BYC to pattern my home made. I just used bits and pieces from a bunch of different designs that other people had used to make up what worked for me. Now that being said, I certainly made some mistakes, mostly in placement of heat source, fans.....and I used a water heater thermostat. It just seemed like most people used them, but after reading and learning more on this site, i really think that spending just a little more $$ to get a wafer or, even better, and electric thermostat, is well worth the extra cost.

I am going to make some modifications for this next hatch, and as usual

I am by no means well educated when it comes to this, but keep asking questions.....that's what I did (and am doing

Oh totally this is a learning process - i mean there are basics - but i also think this is some thing you pick things along the way up as well . And what works for one may not always work for others.
