I almost put her out of her misery but just couldn't do it. She was chewed down to the bone in so many places, and her skin was peeled off in many places. I almost lost her a few times and decided that if she made it through each episode I wouldn't take it into my own hands to end her life. Here she is 4 months later and finally growing some feathers and healing from the inside out. She has deep scabs, that she has picked at times, but is now leaving alone! The two weeks I have been off and it's warming up, I've been taking her outside to get to know the other chickens again, and it's going well. I put her in one half of the pen with the gate between them shut, every now and then one of the roos will hop the fence and visit but no one has tried to mate her thank heavens! Here she is:

You would never know looking at her that she is normally a huge, fat, extremely fluffy, Cochin. I'm so happy to see feathers coming back! My class hatched her two years ago, we lost Cheapers, I sure didn't want to tell them we lost her too.

Just reading your story when it happened and now reading that your girl is finally on the mend really moved me. I am so glad you didn't give up on her! When I think of that poor girl being so close to death that she actually made it to the burial place, and now to see what your care has done it really warms my heart. You should be proud of yourself for the wonderful life your chickens have. So glad to hear a good ending.

I do have to laugh at her though,, she would rather hang out with Pudster, and when I feed in the evening and say "Where's my pretty chicken??" She hobbles to me as fast as she can because she is ready to go back to her comfy quarters in my bedroom!
