Hi,
After they did the protest in washington, I had heard truckers were calling for all truckers to not go to work on MAY 5TH.
Its becoming ridiculous the high prices of gas and BP and the two other top companies are reporting even larger 1st quarter profits this year.
I don't know how many they will get to go along with them but its about time instead of complaining, people start acting.
If the police want something, they go on strike, teachers, nurses, pilots, they tend to get things up and running sooner when people stick together.
(A strange concept, I know, LOL!)
I hope it passes along and even more truckers choose to stay home and make these folks realize just how important those people who drive everyday really are.
What's the world coming too.

It's hitting the owner operators pretty badly. My dad runs traffic at a national trucking co., and they've lost about 1/3 of their owner operators due to fuel costs. They've actually had to lease some tractors and hire drivers, which they've not had to do since the early 90's. They've always depended on their owner operator fleet.

Sadly, the big market chains that run their own fleets will take the least hit from this. In the end, it's always the little guy who suffers.

I know, my hubby is a diesel mechanic. They closed one of his shops here in Florida, which is why we are moving to VA! And finding a job, HA! They can't afford to pay him what he's worth, even though they fight to get him to take $5 less an hour! Luckily he found a new job at Dulles Airport, and starts today! Most of his friends are owner/operators, so we are aware of everything that is going on. I will fully support a strike, as I think we are gonna be one sad country if truckers can't afford to haul our goods!
 
This has been talked about year after year.
I do agree gas prices are high...
Truck drivers take a huge hit of that when they fill up.
My husband used to be a self-employed owner operator...Prices were high then. He stopped driving for 18 months while over in Iraq. Came home and went company driver.
The gas prices were still crazy high, but at least it wasn't coming out of our pockets so to speak.
On a normal fill up he was spending almost $900 and that would last only 2 maybe 3 days tops. Now at the $4.50 (it's almost there for diesel) it would cost him around $1125 every 2 or 3 days. We would have no profit/income to put in our pockets if he was still driving.
The prices are high, and everyone is having to pay the piper so to speak...
The sad thing is some people are depended on being on the road every day or there families don't eat, bills don't get paid, and obviously consumers don't get there products.
Jason had to stay driving every time one of the trucker strikes would come up or he didn't get paid. If he didn't get paid we didn't pay our bills or eat. Even though it's one day. It makes a huge difference on the pay check.
Like I said I don't disagree with the prices being high, or even strikes...BUT I have seen the effects on the strikes from both a consumer end and a family end that depends on the truck driver for income..

There is also going to be a "DON"T BUY GAS AT ALL" this friday (May 2nd) for all of us that drive regular cars and trucks. So if you want to get in on the action, don't buy gas on May 2nd.

Something needs to give but it is going to take the people working together, which is hard to do nowadays, but we need to get back to where the people run the Govt' to th Govt' running the people.

i say that all Americans need to take a week off and not buy gas or food or anything of the sort. Maybe that will open some eyes. And the Govt' needs to quit putting the fuel in the reserve and start bringing some out.

This is my 2 cents
