But he did build me a fabulous chicken coop and he let me hatch the little buggers.
Hatching them is very exciting, it is also VERY nerve wracking and the first time you don't really know what you are doing so it's hard.
I had to help one of my babies out, even though everyone says not to. So then I thought I had done the wrong thing when it was flopping around the incubator....but turns out it was just strenghthening its muscles:jumpy It is fine. I have 4 little ones. They just turned a month old yesterday. Have more in the bator due on 13th.
How about you? What kind of chickens do you have? You'll love this web-site. It is worth more than all the books I have:thumbsup

I've been on this site for a couple months now, but didn't wander around enough to see the State threads.

I'm in the East Bay, just across the bridge from Benicia. (It's a short bike ride from my house.)

I work in Berkeley (teacher).

It's my first time having chickens, ever.

I'm having fun here and learning a lot!

This is a great place!

Hey everybody! Just got back from Concord Feed. I was wearing my BYC University Hoodie and introduced myself to the store manager. Super nice guy who said, "Ya, you guys (BYC) came out of nowhere like a year and a half ago!"

I asked if I could put up a bumper sticker and he said, "Sure, why not on the inside of each chick brooder."

I was so excited, I took a pic:

He wanted to know if they could be involved in something like a local BYC Chickenstock! So, we should really talk about it a get together for all the Bay Area peeps!

BTW, they are also carrying Food Grade DE (Diatomaceous Earth) now in 5 lb. bags.
