Thanks Shelley! My friends got me interested in possibly getting some too, but I couldn't get them until I get back from vacation the end of June. I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about quail! I'll definately have to read up about it in the next few weeks. I know nothing about the difference between jumbo and pharoahs...lol or all of the colors!
hmm.png
How long does it take for slaughter and is it like butchering a chicken? Also how big do these guys get at whatever age of butcher? Do they live in a coop like a chicken? Oh boy, I got alot of reading to do..lol Thanks so much!

This is the first time i put these up for auction.
Colors are blue, ginger coloring, grey , black
eggs colors are light baby blue, and pinkish.
shipping will be $10.20
start bid at $4.00

Jumbos are anything from 10-16 ounces. They shouldn't get bigger than 16 ounces, most aren't even that big. Females are bigger than males. My browns are bigger than my goldens, but they both fall under the 'jumbo' category. Some of my whites are jumbos as well, but I have both jumbo and pharoah in whites. The colors just give you some variety, something pretty to look at

The pharoahs are about 8 ounces live weight for females, or 6 ounces for males. This is the 'norm', I'm not sure how big mine are, I need a scale
lol.png

They are sexually mature at 4-8 weeks usually, and considered full grown at 12 weeks, but between 8 and 12 weeks they just gain a little more weight, not too much of a difference. I've not butchered any myself, so I can't say on that. I can't eat my babies

Most people that keep coturnix keep them in raised, wire cages, to avoid disease. They should be kept away from chickens, there are a lot of diseases that chickens can carry that won't affect the chicken, but it will kill a quail.

So laying eggs between 4 and 8 weeks (my browns took 10 weeks); processing age 8-12 weeks; weight at processing: 10-16 ounces live weight for jumbos, 6-8 ounces live weight for pharoahs. They are pretty easy to care for, I love them

You have bantam EE's? Could you tell me, is THIS a bantam EE?

I have 3 of these, I got them at TSC about 4 weeks ago. They have green legs or "greenish" legs, and they do have muffs, just not big puffy ones. I have two this color, and one that is gray. For the life of me I can't figure out what they are! I did also pick up a chick that I could definitely identify as a bantam EE. And it's dark and feathering in EXACTLY like my standard 6 week old EE's. Cause if these are EE's, then later I would like to get more like them. They are sooo sweet and gentle!

Offer 4 Golden Lakenvelder Shipping $12, Reserve $4

My guy wants these. I'll set them in my bra if I have to. (My bators are so full I bought more bators that aren't here yet and they are already full. Yet, I'll make this work.)

I offer $4 to start.

If you set them in your bra, you HAVE to take pictures of the look on your face as they start to hatch!

that comb doesn't really look like a pea comb to me, maybe a rose comb? If so then I would say they are d'Anvers. Is it a pea comb?

I thought D'Anvers before I thought EE's, but I can't find pictures of D'Anvers in these colors. Would the gray one be considered a blue? And if so, what color are these 2 tan ones? I seem to have lucked out and picked out ALL pullets at TCS this year! I grabbed these 3 because they were just so pretty, and I also grabbed the bantam EE, a Quail Antwerp, a Japanese, a standard BR, and a little White Rock, but she died. The other 7 are all thriving. I know NOTHING about D'Anvers, other than that they are cute!
