Arizona Chickens

Those buttercups are soooo cute! We have named one of our silver hamburgs vulture. She is mostly black with a light colored head. She even walks around with the wings hunched sometimes. We are hoping this is just that juvie awkward stage. She (or he) is just over a month old, so we are hoping this won't last too long.

Phew. I found out exactly what caliche (sp) is today. I've purchased clay for throwing pots that was rougher than this. I'm so sore from digging post holes. But I got it done and I'll have my trellis strung in no time. My green cotton has sprouted and I need to dig out a spot for that too. I'm thinking this is good exercise if I can survive it. Hey! Maybe I can make some adobe? An adobe chicken coop???

I bought 2X2's for the door I need for the pen. I think I've got it figured out. If only I wasn't so wimpy!

Ah, caliche. You've discovered why there aren't a lot of basements in Arizona! I learned the hard way what that stuff was when I was 12; mom wanted a 6 foot deep composting bit and I quit after two days and 1.5 feet.

I've found myself in a strange situation. I want to load up the incubator and hatch some chicks but all the eggs from my flock are commited to Son #2's Life Skills class. They are making egg dishes this week and he volunteered us for 48 eggs on Monday and another 48 on Thursday. Also I commited to hatch out some chicks for a man at my church who is just getting started keeping chickens. Does anyone in the Phoenix area have any fertile eggs I could hatch for him? Thanks.

I once decided to put in a garden. So I used a pick ax to dig holes for thr posts of the rabbit fencing. It took me 2 days. Every time I hit the ground, I felt like a cartoon character. I could faintly hear the doooooiiiiinnnnggg and felt like my whole body vibrated with the impact. I thought it was worth it once it was all finished. Then, when my tomato plants were heavy laden with lots of green fruits, just starting to turn, it was all gone. We have free range cattle here. The cows came through my yard. The fence posts were bent flat to the ground.

I'm collecting for Scott in Marana at present... once his 18 are filled, I can start collecting for you... let me know if that works.

You can have any eggs I collect-- but *ahem* it would be an extremely mixed bag. Everyone is running together--- (Roos:MFC, Sizzles, Aholas, CM/Aloha, BWA)

Anyone who wants to jump on Laree's Freaky Egg Train should do it now. I am getting ready to cull all these pretty boys I have running around. I don't know how long fertility will last.

ALSO- if anyone wants these pretty boys, let me know ASAP. I am rather attached to them and would LOVE to see them go to a good home.

Laree

Do you have roo for dinner? I only have one roo and he's geting pretty rough with his ladies, I like him but their backs are getting pretty naked and they run from him all the time and it seems to be getting worse. He's barely 8 months old. He's a very beautiful BA roo. I could never do the deed, but would you want one more to fry up? I don't think you live too far from me. Or if anyone wants him, come and get him.

We do have roo for dinner, when the situation calls for it.

Would you be interested in trading for one of my banty roos? I am so ridiculously attached to them, and would LOVE to see (even one) get a home. They have small crows, but big personalities---which is the problem. 4 teeny crowers, trying to out-do eachother is going to get me in trouble.

How about I come over and see what you've got? would that work? I'll send you a pm with my phone number and maybe I can come by this weekend! My hens would be so happy
