I'm a new chicken person so I can't help either, sorry. But I wanted to say you have a beautiful yard for your chickens. They are very lucky! I hope you find the solution quickly. She is a beautiful girl. Good luck.

Thanks for the compliment. We actually rent this. It's a duplex on a larger bit of property. The landlord used to have chickens so she was just thrilled that we wanted to get some. LUCKY US!!

I am hoping to get some more specific feedback today. Please check out these two new videos I made. I think they better show the problem, which does seem to be getting worse unfortunately.

She's hard to see at first in this one because she is black and standing in the shadow by the hutch:

I was thinking of isolating her to the hutch but then that might be torture to see everyone else out in the yard.

Any help at all is greatly appreciated.

I'm afraid it appears to be Mareks, but never can be absolutely sure. If it is will progress to paralysis. I have had no success in any treatment, but I have made sure to keep them comfortable with food and water within reach. I have brought my sick birds inside and made slings for them so they are not laying in feces and treated them to special treats as they are being treated. Sadly, none have made it. Two seemed comfortable enough until they died, but several I did lay down when signs of discomfort became evident ion the progression of the disease.
I hop I am wrong and this is not Mareks. I can send you pictures of the 2 styles of slings if you have any interest, but will need an email address.

I'm going to try treating with hypericum and see how that goes. I have a hutch I can isolate her in but I was worried that would be mean since she's still out free ranging with the others. I'll try anything!

I hope I'm wrong too, but it does look like Marek's , or something that looks just like it, Eastern Equine Encephalitis. My silkie roo did that, then the paralysis moved up his body , he couldn't aim at the food, we finally took him to the vet to have him euthanized. From his symptoms, they were just like Marek's. But he was 3 years old, so my vet said EEE. Since I live in Florida, and EEE is prevalent all over Florida, spread by mosquito, it's more likely it.

I would isolate her, perhaps on your porch, and make her french toast in the mornings.

Thanks guys! Yes I've read this thread and started Monday treating her with this homeopathic remedy. She still has no other symptoms other than the funny walk. I'm planning on euthanizing next week if no improvement

I'm new to chickens, but have had more than my fair share of issues. I had a banty pullet that was doing just what yours is last fall.

I freaked out thinking that it was mereks. She got worse and worse, so I had the vet put her to sleep for me and do an autopsy. It was not mereks... the vet couldn't find anything truly wrong with her and we decided that it was poisoning. Likely from some old bark mulch (that cocoa stuff?) that was around the bushes that I had her and 2 buddies fenced off into to keep them safe from the rest of my older flock. The other 2 didn't get it, but they were standard size hens. The vet also thought that it could have been the HUGE amount of slugs that this pullet ate- all from the same bushes/mulch area- or maybe mold from the mulch. The symptoms were very similar....her gait was very wierd at the end and it was almost like she couldn't feel her feet. It was clearly neurological.

Come to find out, she was vaccinated for mereks at the hatchery anyhow. I bought them at the feed store and never thought to ask until months later. Apparently all the chicks they get are given the vax.

If I were in your situation, I'd cage her with a friend and start on the baby vitimins poly-vi-sol with no iron- Half a dropper down twice a day and see if that helps. Maybe stick to a high protien diet.

Best of luck to you!
