here are a few group shots
i was told the group of 4 are the same age but they are all different sizes
the 4 together are the 6 week olders and the group of 3 are the 4 wek olders
Quote:
the white in the first pics appear to be a roo unless they arent the same age. from all the reasearch and talking to silkie owners the roos tend to be bigger than the pullets at a young age
with the last group no one is visable bigger than the other and they appear to be pullets
mind you theses are guesses as silkies are hard to sex

in the first set the white and buff appear to be roos. if you plan on breeding them i would recommend making the buff a pet as it does have a single comb.
the other 3 look like the ones in the group pic...i would watch the white one in the middle 2nd pic as the comb looks like it is slightly bigger and the poof on its head looks like it might be coming in as a roos poof
They are WAY to young to sex. Wait till they are 3-4 months old then you may have a more solid idea.
Girls can take up to 9 months to lay, I've heard of roosters fooling you into thinking they are hens - very henny crests, little to no wattles or comb, until they crow at 9-12 months old. lol Silkies are the hardest breed to sex. Unless they are hatchery chicks - hatchery chicks tend to be very easy to tell by 2-3 months old. Looking at these chicks its hard to tell on many of them...Give them another month before making serious guesses on most of them.
That buff is a rooster, its also got a single comb, the wattle development and that big reddening single comb are a sure fire that hes a boy.
out of those last pictures the first one you'll get a good idea on is the brown chick - the partridge. Partridge color in differently (boys/girl patterns) and its still too young to tell.
thank you for all of your input
these are chicks from MPC that someone else ordered and sold to me
i was told they were ordered as hens but ...........
i guess 2 out of 8 isnt bad right?
