We got 5 chicks from MPC last week. One of the poor babies cries sometimes but I just figured she wanted more attention. I took a closer look tonight and I think she has pasty butt/prolapse. Her bottom was dirty so I took a warm/wet paper towel and rubbed it a bit to clean off the poo. There was another spot I couldn't clean up though. It's black and sticking out just a bit. It pulses when she cries so I'm assuming it's a prolapse? I've did a search and read a lot of recommendations for pushing a prolapse in and then using some Preparation H on the area. This advice was aimed at chickens months older than this little gal. I just want to make sure it's ok to do this with one so small.
Behavior-wise she seems to be acting normally. She gets around fine but has not gained as much weight as the other chicks. I sure would appreciate any suggestions. They are eating chick starter and have plenty of water available. Temp in the brooder is about 95. Thanks.
