At this point, the chickens are trapped in the small area under the coop and we catch them and lock them in their coop. Two ran in by themselves and three had to be caught. They haven't had too bad a day because they probably got about 100 bugs from under the things we removed that was in their runs.

We insert the original doorway so the chickens can't escape. We are really not going to attach this because we will have the chickens in the coop before we move.

This wooden piece fits between the coop and the metal towing bar. Using it, the wire screen on the coop doesn't get torn up when moved.

This fits the entry way to the run (hinges to attach permanently). We are only using it today because it is later in the day, and the chickens are loose in the area under the coop and the other run. Usually when we move the coop and runs we do it early in the morning - we leave the chickens locked in the coop and let them out after it is moved. So we would not need this piece then.

We inserted a jack under the metal support attached to the coop so we can raise the coop up so it is not sitting on the entry way to the run and we can pull it out.

Nov 2015. Trying to build/add interesting things to entertain them. They love the straw bale and it keeps them entertained for long periods of time.

The 4' tall run (the right side) with wheels. Just have a sheet over the top of coop to keep hot sun off them, and to make it harder for the hawks to see them.

This is the run on the left side of the coop. It is 6' tall (same height as coop) and is much nicer to feed them snacks in. This time we put the wheel in the center of the run, rather than on the end, to make it easier to move. By the way, we used some light weight wood and some regular 2x4s to make these runs so that they would not be so heavy, and therefore, easier to move. I highly recommend that, makes a big difference. Instead of the chickens acting like it was a trap, they knew what it was from their other run which had the same kind of slide-in-entrance. I told DH that he has built enough play areas for our chicks, and that now he should build something for me!

This is Hermoine AKA "Tricky". She is on the bottom of the pecking order, but is really a smart, tricky bird. Catch her last so she doesn't teach the other chicks tricks! lol. She is now one of DH's favorite chicks, and always eats her treats out of his hand.

Did all the work making this so they could have more room to roam .... and they acted like it was a trap!! Had to coax them in with treats and lots of cooing. Don't see the wheels in this picture but we installed wheels on the right side to easily move it.
