I was thinking...I just introduced the 2 golden comets, to the flock about the same time, that the laying stopped..could that have anything to do with it?????
I have 8 layers as well, and egg production ceased about a week ago...Nothing changed, but I went out yesterday and got some cracked corn and will begin to supplement their layer feed with more protien....I also have a heat light that comes on at 5am till 9am for warmth and extra daylight, and...
saw your edit, makes sense.....I probably will just consult my neighbor the electrician...He recomended putting the cable in a buried PVC pipe, I was going to change this over the summer but just got to busy.....thanks for the info

You sure are flirting with disaster here! Your problems are:
1. Running an extension cord this distance and plugging in more than item into. The voltage drop caused by this distance is huge. How many do you have plugged together to run this far, at least 3?
2. Extension cords are not...
I have 8 hens, 3 silkies, 1 polish, 2 cochins, and 2 golden comets..I went from getting about 3.5 to 4 doz a week to 2 or 3 eggs a week....nothing has changed, I have always used a light coming on a 5 am till 8 am, all them time...what gives?

I have 3 buff silkie hens, 1 polish hen and 2 cochin hens...from 1year and half in age down to 8 months...I wanted to get some some adult quail pairs for eggs....Can they live in the same coop together with the chickens
Thanks

Great, they are all laying now.....and they seem so happy. I also got a pretty polish girl a bit older as well, she is laying big white eggs everyday....Contemplating building a bigger coop and starting a group of silkie girl chicks
