Yes, we have problems with loose neighbor dogs too. Why would you want an animal roaming around loose that would bother other people? Aren't your animals your responsibility?
Unfathomable -- but I guess that's the times we live in today.
Thanks! We have actually been using a pellet gun, but my husband is a softy and just wants to run the rooster off and not kill him. The problem is that one of the roosters will NOT be run off! We have maybe shot this rooster at least 10 times in the last 3 days!!!!!
I don't know what these...
I have two neighboring (acres apart) roosters who keep coming on my property and trying to lure my hens away. I have a rooster and I keep my chickens penned mostly. However, these two "wild" roosters (they keep going back to the same property at night -- a couple acres away) show up on my...
I would definitely think about culling her. I have about 33 laying hens (not including 20+ young pullets) and I have one hen that I cannot identify that lays a very soft shelled egg about 3 times a week. They never make it out of the nest box before being broken (and eaten by somebody). It's...
Lisababes - I've had several that have what look like scratch marks on them and I've noticed that some of the hens move the eggs around with their beaks. I've always wondered if those scratch marks were scrapings from the beak over the surface of the bloom. They're not as noticeable on white...
Habib Hens - that was very helpful to see those photos. Having never had Black Copper Marans I just didn't know what to look for. Now I know too why I couldn't distinguish males from females in my crowd -- there weren't any males! Now I'm laughing at myself at my thought process of trying to...
No! I can't believe out of ten original chicks (2 died) and the remainder are pullets! What are the odds of that? I guess I should clarify that these were straight run only chicks. Go figure.
I was wondering if the BCM experts out there could help me identify hens and roos. I'm not sure if BCM hens are totally black or if they have just a bit of copper color. Anyway, just when I think I've figured it out, I'm stumped again.
Can anyone shed any light for me? I need to cull out...
I bought a couple of one year old BA hens from a neighbor and they've been doing well. But today for the first time I noticed that one of the hens has a set of spurs! I've looked at pictures of BA roos and they don't look like my "hen", nor does this "hen" display any roo qualities -- crowing...
I eat apricot seeds all the time (it's a cancer killer and keeps my cancer at bay) and I'm not dead. The kind of cyanide in these seeds does not kill humans -- nothing has ever proved that it kills humans. As for chickens, it is a naturally occurring substance and animals eat in nature what...
Last year we raised our chicks using the chicken nipple watering system. They did great. However, this winter was a harsh one and the nipples and the water kept freezing so I had to import water for them a couple times a day.
Now, everybody has totally forgotten how to use the chicken...
Hi,
My name is Janet and I live in southeastern Idaho. I started raising chickens in 2010 and I currently have 56 chickens (14 of which are a new batch of chicks).
Some of the breeds I have are: Aracaunas, Amber White, Black Australorp, Black Copper Maran, Barred Rock, Buff Orpington, Brown...
