I was wondering if the BCM experts out there could help me identify hens and roos. I'm not sure if BCM hens are totally black or if they have just a bit of copper color. Anyway, just when I think I've figured it out, I'm stumped again.

Can anyone shed any light for me? I need to cull out all roosters except one (I'd like to hear your opinion which rooster you would decide to keep). There are 2 pictures per individual. Sorry for the length of all the photos. They were straight run and I thought my odds might be better if I started out with a bunch.

Thanks for the help!

Somehow I think hubby messed up on the next pic -- I don't think it's the same individual. ????

No! I can't believe out of ten original chicks (2 died) and the remainder are pullets! What are the odds of that? I guess I should clarify that these were straight run only chicks. Go figure.

Habib Hens - that was very helpful to see those photos. Having never had Black Copper Marans I just didn't know what to look for. Now I know too why I couldn't distinguish males from females in my crowd -- there weren't any males! Now I'm laughing at myself at my thought process of trying to figure it out.

I'm really starting to enjoy these Marans. They even sound different -- almost a crow-like caw-caw. I can hardly wait for eggs!

Thanks everyone for the help! I won the hen lottery!

I have black copper marans. 3 all black. 2 with copper in many places and 1 with copper just on the head and neck. I got 12 chickens and have no clue males or females. Where can I get help one with
