Red lights are as good as it gets, and does camo blood when it comes to "light to see" or....in my case, heat lamps. BUT, unless your chicks are confinded to total darkness, and depend on artificial light to see or for warmth (or both) and provided strictly red lighting......a red light is not...
Bill, you've prolly heard me say this a time or 7, but the thermostat is the heart of the heating system. An un-cooperative / inconsistant / broad-range stat will put you in depression mode if you go cheapy on one....
Allrighty, here's my take on it one more time. My local / available "starter" feed is Nutrena NatureWise Turkey and Quail Starter (Medicated). There is 200 Grams of Bacitracin Methylene Disalicylate per ton (2,000 lbs.) of feed. That equals to 100 milligrams per 1 pound of feed (less than the...
Ditto! What I tend to question when folks are not seeing actual hatching on that 23rd day is..........What day do you consider "Day 1"? The answer to that can be explained as such ------ If I set eggs right now at 9:00 pm on this beautiful Missippy night, then tomorrow night (Saturday night)...
Bill,
I don’t know if there really is a true 25 watt difference in the 225 watt element you have and this 250 watt: http://www.snlivestock.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=46 , but the 250 watt is what I went with because of the cabinet size. Yours is gonna have a lot of...
I don't know the makeup of duck starter feed, but if I was hatching 1 Bobwhite quail or 100 Bobwhite quail, I would make every ditch effort to find a good quality "Gamebird (Quail) Starter. Do it right. Those chicks are at your mercy for a quality life!
Funny you said that Bill, cause I really was wondering if a thread title could be changed. Heck, since it's done turned into a how-to-build-a-cabinet-bator theme, it might be useful to others.......who knows? Just shows there's countless adds and changes that can be made to make a custom bator...
One other thing that may be worth noting, I notice when I run one fan, the other fan has a reverse draft going through it ( I can see the fan blade wanting to turn in the opposite direction ever so lightly). My theory on this is that it allows yet more heat to be sent through the live fan...
Bill, to give this person the benifit of the doubt, when I re-read his/her post this morning, he/she may be talking about regular "chicken" chick feed. I've never used that stuff, and that may be what he/she is referring to, as I can understand why it's not recommended for quail chicks.
