5 month old chicken died suddenly (just starting to lay eggs) - what to check on the rest of the flock?

I had a chicken die and found she was egg bound, and with a vaselined glove, I checked her vent. The next time I wondered if another had the same problem; I put her in a warm bucket of water in the bathtub to soak a while, she spent the night drying out, and later, she laid her egg, in the dry...

    Chicken is dying

I had a sick chicken with a full crop and noticed her 'throwing up' just a little; I took her out of the coop, I tipped her forward/almost upside down and a lot of watery stuff ran out. I looked it up and think it was called "sour crop." Something to look up. She did get better.

    Coughing chicken

Hello to all you chicken lovers, Last fall I noticed what we found to be lice in the coop (on the walls and in the food; I cleaned out the whole coop and sprinkled sulfer powder around while the hens were out, and haven't noticed the lice since, but wondered if the hens got infected with...

    Help. Leg bending outward.

Hello, sorry to hear about your chick. I'm too late and not sure this would work for any chicken, but we had baby parakeets and two had splayed legs, so I paper-taped their feet (2 toes each to front and back) to a small piece of cereal box/cardboard and let them rest against a sock-wrapped...

Official BYC Poll: Which type of waterers do you like best and why?

This is my favorite and doesn't leak. We're in Minnesota and we have 15 hens and they don't all drink at once, so it works great. I put a splash of ACVinegar in to keep possible algae down. I wash it out once in a while (easy); unplug in warm months. It's next to the wall on a hanger, but...

How to rid mites in coop,

I noticed some mites in our coop; is there something I can spray all over, after I clean it out? What works best? Any other suggestions? How best to get answers posted?

Best type of roost? Weigh in with your design opinion.

Our coop has a mezzanine where our 5 girls roost, and under it, lies 4 old cookie sheets, side by side, that catch their droppings. On top of the cookie sheets is a mesh so they can't step in the pooh (we had an old antenna and the mesh was taken off of it). The roost bar was first a de-burred...
