Wow! I got a duck egg from my only rouen (which strikes me as odd due to rouens not being prolific layers). I never expected to look until spring, I just found it in their cage they go to at night. Anyone else's ducks laying?
I can relate to this, my drake recently got attacked by my dog. Some advice: only stitch if absolutely necessary. But I agree with the others, keep him warm and give him some nutrients.
As mentioned in my previous thread, My duck has suffered a gash from a dog attack. I have decided to stitch, but, I do not know the proper procedures for doing so. I have a few questions:
How do I keep the duck down? Do I need anesthetic?

hmmmm...... I now have a suspicion that it may have been a wild animal. Though being in Southern California, I don't know of any animals except for the coyote or snake.
First causulty. Last night, at around 9 P.M. Pacific, my duck got attacked by my dog . The bites just seem to be puncture wounds, except for one which is a pretty good sized chunk. His bone is showing but there has been no more bleeding. I've cleaned it with Neosporin and wrapped gauze around...
I actually believe that my female duck is a crested mallard, could this be a reason that she doesn't like me? I know that some mallards are very skittish.

I have 2 ducks, one is a crested Rouen and we got her at the feed store when she was ~1.5 weeks old and she was really shy at first, but then she got to the point where she would eat out of my hand. But now she avoids me like I have the bubonic plague. Is it due to the fact that since school...
I have one drake and one female crested duckling (drake is pekin and duckling is rouen). But, my drake has been pecking at the duckling :( . What causes this behavior? They go out to their pen every day from 8 am to 8 pm. Any help would be appreciated.
P.S. the duckling is 6 weeks old.
I am going on a camping trip (4 Days) and I was worried with what to do with my ducks. I have 2 ducks, one is a male pekin and another is a female crested Rouen. I take them out each morning to their pen, then I take them into their enclosure in the garage. Should I leave them in teir garage...
I have a German Shepherd Dog and 2 ducks. Recently she's been sitting next to the pen and trying to get in. I am REALLY worried about my ducks. She seems to be getting at a mouse. PLEASE HELP!
I heard there is no H5N1 in the USA. So is it presumed that my duck does not have H5N1? RubberDuckee, I did not know that! Next time I will be more careful around my ducks.
Well, I had the same setup as you and once it went to 110 F! But, about 10 days into incubation I switched to a Brinsea Mini Eco. Afterwards I got a cute duckling! I think your ducklings will be fine, but, you may want to keep a watchful eye on it.:)
I was wondering how you actually contract bird flu. Do you contract it by mouth, skin contact, eye rubbing, etc. I was also wondering if ducks can get bird flu as well.
I raised my drake "Twitter" from egg and whenever he sees me, he runs towards daddy! He won't even let me walk. Overall, I am very happy that I got him
