As mentioned in my previous thread, My duck has suffered a gash from a dog attack. I have decided to stitch, but, I do not know the proper procedures for doing so. I have a few questions:
How do I keep the duck down? Do I need anesthetic?

    Sunny side up :)
Hi, I don't know about ducks but I had a gash on one of my hens that was big enough to get my whole hand into and had to stitch it. I had my daughter place the hen on her side on a table and hold the hen down and we placed a towel over her head (leaving some breathing space). I did not use an anesthetic due to it being risky for birds. She was very calm once the towel was over her face making it dark. I don't know if a duck would stand for it...maybe ask about it on the duck forum? I have muscovies and don't know if I would try this on them lol.

Here is an excellent you tube video on how to do actual suturing. I watched this when I was first learning how to suture.
You can practice on an orange skin or on a pig skin.
