Non-emergency: layer with history of liquidy urates, coating rear and underside feathers

Hello all. Looking for some help with diagnosis, and if the answer might be a round of antibiotics, dosing. The hen is Novogen, over 1, under 2 years old. For a long number of months now, she was clearly having some bowel issues, Her rear end feathers are usually coated in dried urates, and...

    Chick cannot balance/roost/walk normal

After only six days in isolation, she only had gotten worse. She could only barely get to her feed and water, which were at ground level. She barely moved, and when she did, it was jerky and she used her wings a lot. So today I got her out to see how she did on open ground and it was just sad to...

    Chick cannot balance/roost/walk normal

The store says all their hatcheries vaccinate for Mareks. I checked there bottom of her feet, and nothing seems discolored. Pics attached. Also another vid of setting her down. That right leg just goes flat like she either doesn’t feel the ground or cannot put weight on it. She is isolated in a...

    Chick cannot balance/roost/walk normal

Thanks everyone. I will get her isolated today and get the vitamins. And I’ll also call the farm store and ask about vaccinations.

    Chick cannot balance/roost/walk normal

I do not recall her being like this until the last week or so. It’s when I noticed her in a nesting box in the evening instead of the roosting bars. Purchased on 9/9/20 from a local farm store, so 3 months old. Likely is vaccinated but don’t know for sure. They get purina medicated starter. No...

    Chick cannot balance/roost/walk normal

Hello all, I’ve got a juvenile Novagen who I noticed stopped roosting with the others in the last week or so. She also just does not move a lot and lays in the coop most of the time. When I pick her up, one of her legs stays straight and the other she tucks up. If I try to set her on a roost...

If you kept only one breed...

I’m in to chickens for the eggs, not colors or personalities. I feel that I am in the minority so far in this thread. Because of that, I’d choose Novagen.

What is this my chicken just laid?

Thank you. Dang. I looked online and other people's examples of lash eggs definitely look more "plump" but I have no reason to disagree. No idea which of the girls it is yet though. Might not find out until she's dead.... :(

What is this my chicken just laid?

Anyone know what this is? If so, what concerns should I have and/or what to do about it if anything. It is not hard, but firm. The white looks like what would be the inner membrane.

    Could this be EDS?

Thanks for the reply. Since only one hen is having a problem right now, are you saying I should isolate her and feed her the gamebird feed for a time? We do have a light in their coop, not for heat, but for extending daylight hours. It's something like 30 lumens, very dim actually, but we did...

    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does she have any other symptoms? How about mites? Is she still laying normally? (Also I just posted my own issue with a RIR with missing feathers, but probably a whole other different reason than yours.)

    Could this be EDS?

My second post is a problem/question! :D To-the-point: I have a RIR who is a little over a year old. Her current symptom/problem is laying shelless eggs. She had been laying membrane-only eggs, but lately it has been completely without a shell. I believe this has been going on for a weeks now...

Longtime lurker.... thanks for all the tips!

Hello! I've been frequenting these forums finding answers, ideas, and people with the same questions which sometimes don't have clear answers. I decided to finally create an account. My username comes from my name, Alan, and I live in a town which ends in "berg." Here's the obligatory...
