    Automatic watering systems?

I just installed an automatic waterer from http://www.beaktime.com/ It was pretty easy to install, but I don't know if it is something that would be good for large numbers of chickens. (I have about 15)

How to tell chicks to go to bed?

OK, I tried the night light in the coop, and it didn't seem to have an effect. They were all asleep in a heap outside in the run, right next to the door. Luckily, when they are in this state, they are really easy to pick up (I don't know why). I guess I will keep trying and hope they learn.

How to tell chicks to go to bed?

When you guys say "sundown" do you mean the time the sun literally goes down, or when it actually gets dark? Thanks for the tip about the light. I would have never even thought about that.

How to tell chicks to go to bed?

So yesterday was the first day my flock spent outside the coop, in the run. I was wondering if they would go to bed when it was dark, but as night fell, they all just slept in a heap outside the coop. So I put them back in coop where they slept overnight. This evening I tried to see if they...

Transition to coop in hot weather

I put my 4 week olds in the coop (8'x8') overnight last night and they seem to love it. They have so much more room to spread out and run around. In Texas it varies from high 90s during the day to low 80s at night, and it doesn't seem to affect them at all. My coop has a ton of shade, though.

A chick named Runt [PIC] what's wrong?

This is "Runt" She is lagging far behind his siblings in terms of development. She initially had something wrapped around her leg, constricting it. That has been corrected, and behaviorally she is doing fine --s he eats, explores, poops, etc. like normal, although she is a really skittish...

Transition to coop in hot weather

I'm interested in this one as well. I have some 4-week old chicks that really need to move out of the brooder and out of the house. I can't imagine taking a whole month to do this. That sounds crazy. From what I have read, as long as they are fully feathered, and have plenty of water they...

    Rare breed identification

How certain are you guys that #2 is a roo? My friend is really attached to that one because she nursed it back to health after it had a leg problem, and if it is a roo we are probably not going to be able to keep it. It is actually a very meek chick, if behavioral stuff makes any difference.

    Mixing different chick ages

I recently hatched some chicks who are now about 4 days old. I didn't get quite as many as I wanted, so I was going to buy some chicks to integrate with them. I assume the ones I buy will be one day old, but I won't be able to get them until next week, so there will be an age differential of...

27th or 28th May hatch, looking for buddies

We had one chick that had pipped, but was stuck for over 20 hours. It was cheeping, but appeared to be exhausted, and had no real room to move or push. We chipped away the egg a bit in order to give it the ability to push open. (it was a really thick egg) The chick hatched fine and is doing...
