Will a pecked-at egg still hatch...?

Sad update: one of the kiddos left the run door open and the chickens got another egg. She's down to two but I've got a padlock on there now so let's hope for the best for the surviving ducklings :'(

Will a pecked-at egg still hatch...?

One of our ducks is sitting in a live clutch. This poor girl has had an extremely stressful time with our chickens eating over half of her brood before we realized what was happening and gave her her own run alone. Should have done that from the start. Well, today a well-meaning family member...

    Ascending warble from goslings?

They're just under a week old! Sadly I can't attach a video, but they tend to make it just before grouping up to sleep, while they're falling asleep, and then for a bit after they wake up, so I'm thinking now that it's a sleepy noise!

    Ascending warble from goslings?

Unfortunately I can't post a video, but they do indeed make the noise when they're gathering up to sleep, so that could be mystery solved! :0

    Ascending warble from goslings?

Has anyone heard a "warbling"/"wobbly" whistle from goslings...? We have two right now that keep making an ascending whistling noise, except it seems to have a "vibrato" to it unlike their usual whistles. It's a "wiggly" sounding whistle, lol. What on earth is this sound and what does it mean...

What breeds are you looking for this year? :)

Thought it'd be fun to see what everyone's expanding to this upcoming year! Personally, I'm adding blue swedish ducks to our flock!

I've got dirty chicks! What do I do?

Yes, I am. Perhaps I need one of those feeders with the little holes in it for them to peck through, but that might be a nightmare with wet food, haha.

I've got dirty chicks! What do I do?

Hey all! I've hit a lovely milestone with my garden that I can now raise new chicks on things we already have (boiled eggs, oats, pumpkin, ect.) rather than buying feed. They've been growing healthy and strong and are very lively. Yay for more self-sufficiency! The problem... Chicks love to...

New chicks don't recognize real food?

I purchased a batch of chicks yesterday that were, until this point, raised on commercial chick feed. I like to start my birds on real food from the start--scrambled eggs, mashed up peas, ect. But I always run into the problem of chicks stomping right over the food and screaming in hunger the...

pipped wrong end..duckling help with pic

Congrats on the babies making it out! Just posting here for people who read in the future: ducklings love to get turned around and pip at the wrong end! I have a few every single hatch that do it, lol. It usually happens with big babies, like you mentioned--I think they just grow so big they...

Ducklings hatched early under broody hen?

Hey all! First off: the ducklings are just fine! They came out perfectly healthy with no defects or issues and have been doing great their first week. ... which is exactly why I'm posting! We have a very broody hen who refused to break for an entire YEAR, no matter what we tried she kept...

    Tips to quiet turkey toms?

Very short, simple post: Is there any way to minimize "shock gobble" with domestic turkey? Our tom goes off whenever one of the ducks quack or one of the goats baaas, and it sets off a chain reaction across the farm. Funny most days but sometimes I just :he

    Chicks ate guinea pig bedding?

One of the older kiddums surprised me by changing the chick bedding without my knowing--a very sweet gesture that I won't make her feel bad about, however .. She used that fluffy, white guinea pig bedding, and the chicks seemed to prefer it over their starter for some bizarre reason! They...
