Last night I discovered one of my hens just sitting in the run... As I watched her I saw other chickens step on her & she didn't move so I went in & checked her out. There were no signs of injury so I set her back down where she stood for a sec or two & then collapsed, not sit down but collapsed...
Howdy folks, my chicks have hit the 2 week mark & have not lost any! Its more a testament to the great info available here than my own chicken rearing ability.
I have another question that a search was not able to turn up.
I put my chicks on medicated crumbs right off the bat. How long...
2 more quick questions if ya'll dont mind.
At what age can the chicks start to fly? Since I have moved them to the new brooder they have room to run now & run they do. They also flap their wings & launch themselves into the air. Thus far the best they can do is up about 1ft & forward about 3...
I got the new brooder finished last night & put the girls in it. They WERE NOT HAPPY! In fact, I think they would have reacted less vehemently if I was chasing them with an axe! You would think they would like it, they have 6 times more space now Cowards
Howdy folks!
I am fixing to move my chics into an expander brooder which is in an unfinished portion of my basement. Unfortunately that part of the basement also gets no natural light. I plan on putting in 2 heat lamps & wonder if that is sufficient lighting or should I supplement it with...

They just pick another spot (so I am building another brooder) so its a temporary fix at best...
Good luck!

I just got back from buying some chicken wire...
Thanks guys,
I am already starting to see some personalities emerge on these little chics. Some come running soon as they see me, others run away.
I ordered just 25chics without sexing them. I hope I have an pretty close to an even split but I guess time will tell. I have already ID'd 2 that...
Howdy folks,
I ordered 25 Plymouth Rock chics from efowl & they arrived yesterday. This is my 1st time raising chickens so I am a bit nervous.
I was surprise that they only sent 25 but was glad that all of them were alive & in what appears to be good health. I am using a large Styrofoam...
Greetings folks!
I have been ghosting this site for a couple of months with the intention of getting some chicks in the spring.
I drew up my plans for a coup & made a material list. I intend to start building it the 1st week of March & have it done that very same week (I am a former...
