    Leg Mites & Conflicting Treatments

Someone on another thread mentioned mixing sevin dust in melted Vaseline, then using the cooled Vaseline on the legs. Could this be done using the elector or permethrin instead? I have a large mixed flock of chickens, turkeys, ducks, and want to treat them all efficiently.

    Water ideas!

I bought a plastic tub, and drilled holes in the lid. I have wood pellets inside to soak up spills. I use a small whisk broom to sweep the top off daily. This is on one end of their brooder. It has done a great job keeping the bedding dry. (At least for the first week.) I'm sure my challenges...

    New Duck Mama

Thanks. I took the lid off of their feeder too, and put it close to the water. The way they weren't crazy for it makes me think the lid was confusing them.

How cold tolerant are baby polish chicks?

68 is kind of cool if they are not fully feathered. They will want a warm spot. If they have all their feathers, 68 should be ok

    Need some ideas please!

Hey @aart - sorry for the no show!!! My daughter bought chicks - and left them at my house. They never did close in that shed. I'm a little disappointed because I thought it would be perfect for them!

74° out of the wind is just fine! My polish don't like the wind at all.

Where can I buy some chicks??? Living in Montana

Spectrum Ranch in Chamberlain South Dakota should have them. I don't know about their reputation, but I see on FB all the time where they are traveling state to state delivering animals.

    New Duck Mama

I am raising my very first ducklings. I have seven 4 day old Blue Swedish in a 4tfX2ft brooder box. It's 1/2 of an 8 foot brooder. I have 4 chicks in the other side. How long will a 4x8 brooder work? Do I need food sitting right next to the waterer? Or can the food be set away from the water?

    Rotten eggs

I had a similar problem, and never did get an answer to it. I ended up culling the hen laying these eggs becauseI didn't want the risk of a friend or coworker getting one in their carton .

    Need some ideas please!

Of course. We're in western Nebraska. COLD and windy in the winter, hot in the summer. I should add that the opening in the picture is under the carport.

    Need some ideas please!

My daughter just bought a house that has an area she would like to turn into a coop. The carport has a lean to built off of one side. She wants turn that into small coop for 3-4 birds. The area is about 6ft x 3 ft, and about 6 feet tall. It was last used for storage. I just need some...

THE Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco Thread; Hatches, etc. (PICS)

I would think you could very easily use something else. Those little dollar store plastic baskets with holes drilled in the bottom for ventilation, craft plastic mesh made into a basket, or even ordering a new tray from Brinsea are the ideas I have right off the bat. I think the key would be...
