    Rooster or Hen?

At 14 weeks those combs and wattles are very red. My RIR girls are 16 weeks and their combs and wattles are not that red. I was led to believe that a hens comb and wattle goes red right before they start to lay. That being said the body structure and posture are not screaming roo to me. I...

What kinds of chickens are these???

I agree. Look at the posture of the Roo in photo #3. Very tall, erect and proud, that's not a normal look for a hen.

Has anyone seen a buff orpington cross like this?

Thank you Julie! So would it be a male Crele x female BO?

Has anyone seen a buff orpington cross like this?

Don't mean to hijack your thread, but I love the color on your chicken. How would you get a lemon cuckoo pullet? Cuckoo x BO?

    What breed is this rooster?

At a guess I would say a Austrolop x Leghorn mix.

    Aggresive hen

Way to go Shell! Great information for us new chicken owners. I too have RIR, but I have a rooster so I will go check out that link above. Thank you!

    What breed is this hen?

PR and BR would be my guesses too.

Help. I think I have a roo after all.

It's hard to tell from the photo, but a Cucko Maran will have gray colored legs. Either way the lighter one is a roo. In both the BRs and CMs the lighter is the Roo. Seeing these two side-by-side, along with the comb and wattles and crowing. Slam Dunk ... Roo.

Is this real, if so what is it???

My gut tells me it's photoshop. A quick google search only showed this one picture of a "blue" comb. There are several references to poor circulation or frostbite causing a blue or purple hue to the comb, but the don't mention a completely blue comb.

    My first chickens

Without a doubt that is a Roo. His comb and wattles are as big as my Roos at 16 weeks.

Just want some confirmation on gender

4 weeks is kinda young to get an accurate assessment of the gender for these chicks. Give it another month or so and you will have all the opinions you want :)

    aggressive rooster

About all an agressive rooster is good for is pot pies. 8 - 9 weeks is too young for breeding. I would not turn lose the hens with a mature rooster.

This is my first flock of chickens and I'm not quite sure what kind of breed this is I've seen a cou

Rock or Marans? (Barred/Cuckoo AND White)

I am very new at the Maran breed, so I recommend PM-ing someone like Donrae. She is very knowledgable about the Marans and BRs. If I were to hazard a guess it would be a BR. This guess is based upon the eye color and leg color. I have two Cuckoo Marans and they both have a gray color legs...
