Thanks a lot!Because barring is sex linked. A male who is pure for barring, meaning he has two genes for barring, gives one to each of his offspring, regardless of gender. A hen who is pure for barring only has one barring gene. This is how you can sex barred/cuckoo birds by color. The two genes give the males wider white bars, making the bird look much lighter overall. A hen, having only one barring gene, only passes it onto her male offspring, not her female. that's the entire basis behind black sex links. Here's the classic thread with some good info...
