    This morning I discovered that one of my chickens died last night in the coop. No signs of intruder. The other 3 are fine. When my husband picked her up, she had something round bloody stuck in vent hole. It was a mess. Does this mean she had a broken egg inside? She seemed fine yesterday.

    ok thanks! for a while i was going out in the morning and putting the boxes where they lay them, just to keep them clean, then removing the boxes when i collect the eggs. But thy kick the shavings out of the boxes and lay them outside the box! i'll try the fake eggs! Thanks!

    My 4 hens are great layers but will not lay them in the nesting boxes. They prefer to lay them under the roosting bar. Should I try to break this habit or just accept it?

    Well I'm not sure should I separate, or if they are always all together, will they just take care of each other? I guess I should count this as day 1? They sit on them sometimes and lay eggs, adding to the bunch, but this is the first day she just hangs out for long stretches at a time...
