One of my chickens died

This morning I discovered that one of my chickens died last night in the coop. No signs of intruder. The other 3 are fine. When my husband picked her up, she had something round bloody stuck in vent hole. It was a mess. Does this mean she had a broken egg inside? She seemed fine yesterday.

It does sound as though she was egg bound, and suffered a prolapsed vent. If a hen is eggbound with too large an egg for over 2 days, they usually don't make it. Sorry for your loss.
