I've only used a red heating bulb in my brooder before but got a white light this time. I am wondering if leaving the light on would be a bad thing for the baby buttonquails. Maybe it would hurt their eyes? I dont know. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I had a heat glo infrared bulb ready for the brooder but it just went out. Can I use a normal one from the store or do I need a special one? I got chicks hatching in about a week and need a bulb in place just in case the replacements I ordered do not work out.
Thanks in advance.
I recently bought a new incubator since my old one was too old. I got the Little Giant 9300 for now. The temp reads at 99.5-99.6 consistently. I havent seen it go up or down since I set it up 4 days ago. However, my Zoo Med thermometer reads 98.8. Which one do I trust? Any tips or advice...

Well, the first batch was supposed to hatch yesterday and they didnt. The second one is supposed to go on lockdown today and due on tuesday. It was my very first incubation so I guess I shouldnt be...

I have a total of 5. Two were the ones that came with the incubator and i had a digital. The digital didnt quite match the normal ones that came with the incubator. When I bought two more digital thermometers then two of them showed the same temp while the other one was consistently...
just one incubator and one brooder. i'm going to continue giving these batches a try but I did go out today and bought two new thermometers. When I checked it against my other digital thermometer, the temp was off by about 3 degrees higher. So i had to re-temp and restabilize everything. Oh...
I'm not manually turning the eggs What I did was stop the turner and I will manually turn the eggs I dont think are ready about twice a day (instead of the normal 4 times). The ones I think are ready, I will just turn slightly until they hatch. Hopefully, that will work.
I put in one batch of eggs.... say batch A eggs. Then a couple of days later, I picked up more eggs from the hens and put them in the incubator. Lets call those batch B. I thought that I had logged correctly which ones were batch A and batch B but now, i cant tell exactly which eggs are in...
I messed up! So i put the eggs in the LG that I have (this is my first time) and then a couple of days later I put in some more to hatch. Well, I thought I knew which ones were which but when I went to the incubator this morning to lock the first batch down, I noticed that I really didnt do a...
Does each chicken egg have to be fertilized by the male on a per breeding act basis or do the chickens retain sperm to use for later usage? If they retain the sperm, how long do they do that for?
Same project for me except I started a day earlier. One batch is due on the 15th and another one is due on the 16th.
I havent candled nor opened mine. I'll try doing so sometime this week
