The last ones we had, we gave to a friend so I still get to see them, and three of them fly over the 6 ft fence they have around their run, two of those three are Aeuracanas (sp?) and one is a white rock. So I wasn't sure if 4 ft would be enough, but I am thinking with a large enough area and a...
How high would a fence need to be to prevent chickens from jumping over? We had to get rid of our chickens this year (just before they started laying) b/c the neighbor complained, now they are changing the zoning so I am getting ready to get chickens again in the spring. I liked having them...
My neighbor complained about my chickens. Now I have none I was under the impression (b/c EVERYONE has them, and b/c I live in an AGRICULTURAL TOWN, with an AGRICULTURAL high school) that as long as I don't have a rooster I can have chickens. NOPE! I live on a full acre, apparently chickens...
My babies are 4 weeks old and now outside, I need to start giving them grit, can I just spread it on the ground or does it need to be in a container of some sort?
We have come to the conclusion the chick was possibly being lazy. It seems to walk around fine, it also gets up on the roost fine, and even flys fine (or tries to anyway, there is a top on the brooder) and now another one was doing it, I think maybe it could be dust bathing? They seem to roll...
One of our leghorns, that are 10 days old and fine up to this point, is acting like it can't stand up. When I open the brooder, it jumps up and moves around but when it lays done it falls to it's side and can't lay down upright, any ideas???
We have 6 Cornish Rocks, 3 Leghorns, 3 Australorps, and 3 Golden Comets. All were Straight Run except the Golden Comets.
3 cornish & 3 leghorns we have had for 11 days
3 cornish & 3 Australorps we have had for 6 days
and the 3 comets we have had for 3 days.
How do you teach a chicken not to run away, or run into the street? We live out in no mans land, but we still live close to the road, and cars go by very fast (even though the speed limit is 25mph)
