I was feeding my dogs tuna from a can and gave some to my 3 hens and they went BERSERK! Is there any reason I shouldn't do this? They won't start laying till April...maybe it will make their eggs fishy...yuck
How do you "pop their heads off"? That sounds like something my cats would love! And as for eating city pigeons, they are probably full of worms and lice, otherwise I would. Dove is DELICIOUS, and aren't they pretty much the same thing?
That's a good idea, but then what do I do with them? I'm not sure I could handle killing them with my bare hands....I'm not sure I would even know how. Chop their little heads off? Eeewww!
I wish!!!! We are in major suburbia so we have to be muy careful about shooting them, although we do it every chance we get. I won't poison them because someones dog will end up eating a poisoned corpse. Other ideas?
Do I need to worry about disease from pigeon poop infecting my girls? They roost on my roof and poop all over, the side yard is disgusting. I HATE them but they are impossible to get rid of - my stupid neighbor feeds them. Avian flu?
OK, I know this is old hat to you guys, but......I live in Phoenix AZ, nite temps are in the lo 50s, 40s. My 3 girls are about one month old and really feathering up - a RIR, Barred Rock, Arecuana. I put them out all day but bring them inside (a cardboard box) at night.
When do I: 1) Turn...
I agree with the bug guy, NOTHING is more fun than watching my baby girls chase crickets, but they go through them in a hurry. The cheapest I can find online is about $15 (including shipping) per 1000. Question: Is it possible to feed them TOO many crickets? I don't want to make them sick! I...
Hi everybody - I'll bet this question has been asked before - can a cat kill a chicken? I have a RIR, Barred Rock , and Aracuana. They are only a few weeks old so I am being very careful, but when they are full grown can they fight off a cat?
you guys rock! Thanks for those GREAT pictures. I asked because I want to add a Buff Orp to our flock, bringing the number up to 4. We have a RIR, an Ameracuna, and a Plymouth Barred, all 5 day old chicks, and a local feed store has a mixed assortment. Everyone says Orps are sweet tempered, and...
Here is a goofy question but I'm a newbie so please don't roll your eyes: Do chickens like to be touched or petted? I know parrots love having their neck gently scritched, it must feel like another birdie beak grooming them. Do chickens like that? We are trying to get our baby chicks used to us...
Namaste Mama, you are right about the harsh sun, but wood would fall apart even quicker, especially when you think about how dry it is....I vowed that I would never again buy wooden patio furniture. How on earth are you going to build an adobe coop? Maybe I should just keep my girls in the house!
Wow guys! Now I don't know what to think. I know the Eglu is too small for me, as I won't be able to resist getting more chickens. But the Cube looks SO COOL!!! But it is SOOO expensive Then again, so is the Henspa, Chik -n- hutch, etc.. It's kind of funny to think of a $2 chicken in a $1000...
I looked at those coop design links, and I really love the 2nd one...I think I'll buy the plans and try building it. Hopefully I won't cut off any fingers.
Wow...that really stinks. Here I was thinking this was the perfect coop option (although definitely overpriced.) I'm just afraid that if I start buying lumber etc at Lowes, and then screwing it up, that I'll end up spending a ton of money anyway, plus end up with something too heavy to move, and...
