I separated her because our first thought was that it was duck-on-duck attack. Now I'm not so sure. I also wanted to bring her in because it's pretty chilly today and I want her to be warm and rest.
As for sharp objects in the "hut" no, it's just hay. It's a plastic dogloo with a bunch of hay...
Also, we've put her in isolation in one of the bathtubs so it's warmer and she's secluded from any other ducks or animals. Should I give her a bath? I'm going to go get some vitamins this afternoon - anything else I should do?
This morning we discovered that our Runner, Brownie, had some blood; it's not a lot but it was on her foot and abdomen but as far as I can tell her foot is okay and the blood is just from her sitting on it.
All 4 ducks go into the same "hut" at night. My question is can one duck really hurt...
I thought that runners were not flight ducks! Everything I have read says no but our fawn & white runner just flew over my husband's head (he's 5'6") to get away from one of the dogs. We have 6' fences.
The thing is she's only 11 weeks old. Am I going to have to clip her wings or was this a...
The oldest Pekin (now 10 weeks) STILL doesn't get in the pool with any other than the Runner (also 10 weeks) and only if the Runner is alone. Thunder (10 week Pekin) won't get in if the younger ones are in no matter what; instead she circles the pool. It's kind of like she's the lifeguard. They...
I agree with Amiga. The bibbed ones look just like my Black Swedish but with more white. The one (of the 2 bibbed) that doesn't have a black beak could be a mix but not necessarily.
They were all indoors until about 3 weeks ago but the younger ones were in a brooder box while the older ones were in a cage.
They've all been outside together for the last 3 days. They seem to be fine now. The largest girl (9 week old Pekin) won't get in the pool with the other 3 but...
They are definitely all girls. We vent-sexed them in the beginning and their quack is obviously duck not drake (as far as I can tell from listening to other ducks and drakes and based on when they started quacking).
We put the cage outside with the older ones so that the younger ones would be...
We've been putting in a small pail of water and food at night. I'm glad to know they can go without it though! How old before I can remove the food and water at night? My oldest are 9 weeks tomorrow.
We have 4 total, 2 are 9 weeks and 2 are 6 weeks old. The older girls are mean to the younger girls! The oldest Pekin chases the younger girls around, kicks them out of the pool, has tried to drown them, and gets so mad she quivers violently before she charges them.
The other 9 week old is a...
My 2 ducks that are 8.5 weeks old are outside - have been for 3 weeks (2 weeks full time and 1st week daytime only). Tonight it's actually going to get cold, down to about 29 degrees F actual temp and feel about 6-8 degrees lower than that depending on the wind.
Their "house" for now is a...
