My question to you is how much do your chickens eat per day? Please include type of food, species, and how often you feed that type of feed. Please use lbs. as measurement.
Ridgerunner was spot-on when he described my run. The only predators the pasture behind has are fox, coyotes, and the occasional hawk. Can one of those fake owls keep away the hawks ir us that a wives tale? Should I use 2 rolls and the 2in square wire? Is that enough? Or should i just build a...
So they wont fly away? The coop is on the inside of my fence so can they just follow me? I was thinking about getting a wagon with a cage and just loading them up. Thats why I would want to clip their wings. Im going to get a rooster and have a lovely english labrador retreiver that is great...
There is a huge open pasture with some forests, short grass feilds, semi-forests, and a pond. I was thinking I could save feed, make the chickens happier, and entertain me by letting the chickens free range while I was watching them while fishing or taking a strole. Would I have to clip their...
I think I might get 4 sussex, 1 easter egger or ameraucana( or however you spell it ), 2 silkie hens, and 1 black cochin bantam. Can they breed together?
on the last post i forgot to say that instead of 5 laying hens i wanted 4 and an easter egger. I would prefer to have a hen go broody occasionally and hatch chicks.
I plan on having a coop and run suitable for 8 standard chickens and will let them out occasionally. Here's the idea for the flock: 1 black cochin bantam rooster, 2 good broody hens( Ideas ? ), 5 laying hens( Im thinking sussex but other idease are welcome) Ideas, questions, comments? Shoot away
Okay from what I've read you have to put the breeding pair in a seperate pen to breed them. If my goal is to get plenty of eggs and to raise chicks occasionally then do I ever need to seperate the rooster from the flock? I want some chicks do I need to seperate the breeding pair from the flock...
I have plans for a run that is 16x16x16x9 (lenghts and widths). One 16 foot side is a 6 ft high wood fence, Another 16ft side is a 4ft chainlink fence, Another 16ft side is fencing that I'll have to put up and the last 9ft side is the 6ft high coop. I was going to use square fencing ( 2 rolls...
Okay so how many eggs do you think per silkie. And I fogot to add this but the "rare" birds are cochins. So do yall think that I could just take away her eggs and replace them with the cochins alltogether?
Okay since Im new to poultry and am lazy and havent really searched the forums I was intruiged by the possibility that cochins and silkies could cross? If so, would it be better to breed a male silkie with female cochin or male cochin and female silkie? This is because silkies are layers of fair...
